Smart Shoulder is connected with a smartphone through Arduino and sensors. It will autonomously signal bad posture by flashing, it offers autonomous lighting, detects a man-down situation and makes emergency calls. Activating the panic-mode will start a live video call so that backup can monitor the situation and respond accordingly. These are but a few of many other features to assist solitary technicians working in remote places.
HeijltjesAkkaya sketched the first ideas, created the concept and carried out the development up until a fully functioning smart vest - proof of concept - to kick-start a further process of product development.

Smart Shoulder is met sensoren uitgerust en via de smartphone en Arduino verbonden.
Bewegingssensors monitoren en ondersteunen een gezondere lichaamshouding, bij te sturen via haptic en visuele feedback en structureel in kaart te brengen voor een bredere toepassing in een gezondheidsplan. Belangrijker nog biedt dit de mogelijkheid om direct calamiteiten (man-down situaties) te signaleren en contact op te nemen met nooddiensten. Een live feed via de camera van de smartphone kan op afstand de situatie beter in kaart brengen.
Een alarmknop strategisch geplaatst op het holster schakelt hulpdiensten in en zet direct een live-verbinding op via de smartphone om sneller en beter op bedreigende situaties te kunnen reageren, iets wat helaas geen uitzondering is voor technici in het veld.
Lichtsensoren met led’s op het holsters zorgen voor automatisch bijlichten in donkere omgevingen, locatie wordt vastgelegd en automatisch toegevoegd in rapportage om het papierwerk effiencter en minder fout-gevoelig te maken. Dit is een slechts een (geteste) greep uit de mogelijkheden van de Smart Shoulder.
Smart Shoulder is als concept ontwikkeld door HeijltjesAkkaya, van eerste schetst tot proof of concept in nauw contact met mensen uit het veld. Smart Shoulder wordt momenteel door Tejin en HAVEP, in samenwerking met Elitac, doorontwikkeld tot market-ready product.
